Establish a strong foundation.
We cannot always control our circumstances or the way in which our body reacts to or manages stress. There are some things we just cannot foresee, but as we age we can work to build a strong foundation regardless of whether we started on sand or rocky ground -- we have the ability to choose strength. We have the ability to choose discipline. It may not be what we want to do or even what we think we are capable of doing, but it is what we are often called to do. Living with post-traumatic stress can very often change the person that we are --- it can cause us to lose trust - cause us to lose focus on our priorities. Often we can find ourselves in discontent - lack - hopelessness - anger. Sometimes there can be an all out war going on inside when you live with PTSD. Doing simple tasks can sometimes feel like you are carrying the load of the entire world. Learning to trust yourself and the people around you can take months, sometimes even years. Learning to trust the tools and resources - taking it one step, one moment, sometimes one minute at a time is critical to recovery and healing.
Heavenly Father, thank you for helping us to build a strong foundation. Thank you for showing us how to move from the sandy, rocky ground to ground that is more stable and consistent. We know, Lord, that a few cracks might still surface every now and again, but we know that with our focus on our priorities -- faith and family -- that You are capable of working incredible miracles in our lives. Lord, we pray that when the war begins to rage in our soul that You intercede for us before we even ask. And, we pray especially Lord, for those families who are still learning more about PTSD. We ask you to lift them up-- we ask you to open the door to more peace, trust, strength, and discipline in their life and we pray that you encourage them to step through it. Thank you Lord, for the healing and recovery - thank you for helping us to choose life!
