In a relationship where PTSD is present, we should be intentional and do the things that speak love.
Peace. Trust. Strength. Discipline. - don’t just happen, especially when you are first working through trauma.
Being thoughtful is simple, but for those of us who move at the incredibly fast pace of the hare it can be hard. As our daughter reminded me years ago, her tiny hand in mine, “Go slow Mama. Go slow.” Sometimes it is necessary to slow down not for my sake, but for the sake of those around me to minimize the additional anxiety, stress, and pain that can sometimes be caused when we move too fast.
Going slow might mean sacrificing what we would like to do. Going slow might mean taking longer than we would like to take. Going slow might cause us to breathe in deeper, get stronger, and tune in more. Going slow might be hard for us, but it sure is worth going slow if everyone else around us is comfortable and cared for.
Living in a family where PTSD is present may sometimes require us to be intentional even when we don't want to be, but loving action always wins! And, isn’t that what we are called to do? “Love one another as I have loved you” John 13:34.
Y’all have a beautiful day!
All My Love,
Jen
