Growing up my uncle kept a bag of M & M’s in the glove compartment of his car. Each time we would ride with him he would share them with us. Then I usually got to pull down the arm rest in the middle of the front seat of the car and sit on top of it while we drove. Seat belts were definitely optional then and boy, did I feel like a princess. He did tell me later about the real reason he had those beautiful candies in his car, but in my heart they will always be a special time and treat for us.
My grandfather also loved coming by our house after he finished an insurance call in our area. Many times he would stop at the Handy-Stop just down the road from our house and buy us each a package of M&M’s. He would arrive with them in a brown paper sack just big enough to cover the M&M package. My parents would make him a cup of coffee and we would gather around the table to visit. We always delighted in his visit with us and never minded sharing a few M&M's with him too.
Beautiful memories. Beautiful times all because of a few tiny pieces of candy coated chocolate. More so though because of the thoughtful actions of others, to stop and think about us, our lives were made a little brighter.
What can you do to brighten someone’s day today?
Y’all have a beautiful day!
