Cup towels on the kitchen cabinet.
Cut from old clothing.
A reminder of what was before.
A life full of laughter,
Running and chasing a family of 8.
Her heart would explode
And a smile lit her face
Everytime a new little one arrived.
Stone crisp blue jeans hung on the line.
Nearly all the same length.
A reminder of the hard, rough labor it takes to farm.
Rise before the sun.
Cook breakfast and get everyone out to the barn.
Her heart would explode
And a smile lit her face
Everytime she learned that the crop was growing good.
Bedsheets danced in the wind.
Some white, some printed with roses, some with stripes.
A reminder of the happiness in life.
Rest for her family they would provide.
Playful wedding dresses, fortresses, and tents for the grandchildren.
Her heart would explode
And a smile lit her face
Everytime she used them.
Grandpa’s blue shirts sparkled on the line.
A few of them, a different shade.
A reminder of the work he did for them.
A life full of laughter and a few tears.
Running and chasing a family of 8.
Rise before the sun.
Breakfast is done - “We’re headed to the barn.”
She would rest in order to take care of her family.
“Grandma come see what we have made!” She heard them say.
Her heart would explode
And a smile lit her face
Everytime she looked into his eyes and felt his sweet embrace.
“My job is done here.”
We heard her say.
“The laundry is all folded and put away.”
A reminder of the love we share.
A life full of laughter and a few tears.
Running and chasing one another in the sun.
“It is time for me to rest”
“Look little ones! I made it home.”
Her heart explodes
And a smile lights her face.
In memory of my grandmother, Edna Shimek - August 1933 - July 2020.
Have a beautiful day ya'll!
All My Love,
Jen
