When you have PTSD sometimes life can feel wonky or heavy. It can feel as if you are not wanted or necessary. Things can get twisted - having a mission - a goal - a purpose can help reset your mindset when negative thoughts are triggered and sometimes it can help to alleviate the triggers all together.
Writing a mission statement is much like planning a roadtrip. The process encourages you to look ahead and decide what you would like your journey to look like. It provides a clear path to your destination and reminds you to make decisions that align with your values. It helps you to stay focused and on track, keeps you motivated and inspired to reach your goals. It encourages you to take risks, celebrate the small victories, and incites momentum while also driving your determination.
A mission statement serves to:
Remind you/your organization of your focus.
Help you to make better decisions.
Keep you going.
Cause you to breathe deeply and smile more.
Let others know what the values of the organization are.
To create a mission statement ask yourself:
What do I want the world around me to look like?
Then ask yourself:
What legacy do I want to leave behind?
Identify keywords that you would like to include in your mission statement.
Then write a sentence that encapsulates your goal.
If you need some help try one of these:
My/Our mission is…
My/Our goal is…
I/We want to help…
Here’s an example of our mission statement at Get Strong with Jen:
We cannot wait to walk with you into a life filled with more peace, trust, strength, and discipline!
Heavenly Father, thank you so much for this day and our mission to lean into PTSD. Lord, we know when we lean into You, our mission becomes more and more evident. Help us Lord, to know through You, through Your words, and the words and actions of those around us what our purpose should be over our lifetime. Lord, thank you for helping us to think through what we would like our world around us to look like. Thank you for helping us to live out our mission and ultimately your calling. Thank you Lord for helping us to reroute our negative thoughts and hand them over to you. Lord, thank you for trusting us and wrapping us in peace. Thank you for all the gifts that you have given to us. We are forever yours. Amen.
Thank you so much for joining us in prayer. Ya’ll have a beautiful day!
All My Love,
Jen
