Getting quiet with God is sometimes hard to do because you want to know how or why something has happened, is happening, or will happen. You want to ask questions – you want to learn more.
When you get quiet though this let’s God know and perhaps even yourself that you trust Him completely. You believe He has the ability to make choices for your life that you might not otherwise make or agree with. God sees and knows the entire picture because He is the one who created it.
In these moments of quiet contemplation God meets us at the door to our ark. Remember it is He who helped us to build our ark. He knocks the secret knock to let us know that He is there. Then quietly and gently guides us as the storm rages past. Like Noah we can sometimes be in the storm for months – like Jacob even years, but eventually like Noah and Jacob found peace, so too will we.
Through Noah’s story we learn about the importance of caring for our family first. There is not any real indication about what went on in the ark, but with all the animals and eight people I have to imagine they worked together and that their family must have been incredibly strong. God shows us this bond between family again in the creation/birth of His Son to Joseph and Mary - The Holy Family.
When you have PTSD you can sometimes feel at times that your family does not care for you or you yourself can feel like you do not really care for your family. You are tired, rundown, hurting, broken, and bruised. Consider looking towards Noah and his family — look towards the Holy Family on those days that are hard and watch how you stand back up.
To strengthen your family unit or otherwise inspire your day:
Find a song - determine what song represents the kind of family unit that you want. Play it everyday.
Create a mission statement - as a family determine what you want your mission to be. Post your mission statement and remind each other of it frequently.
Check in with one another - you can have planned meetings or simply seek out moments during the day for individual check-ins. If possible keep a family text chain to share moments throughout the day.
SMILE -LOVE - and HUG everyday! And of course, PRAY!
Lord, thank you for this quiet time with You and for providing examples of believing families over and over again. Thank you for writing our story and for Your protection and provision. Thank you for being our greatest healer and source of unending love. Thank you for helping us to make more room for you. Thank you for all the gifts that you have given to us. We are forever yours. Amen.
Thank you so much for joining us in prayer. Ya’ll have a beautiful day!
All My Love,
Jen
