Words have the power to open doors, but they also have the power to close them – shut, deadlock, and bolt them. As we reflect on this week’s theme – The Power of Words – recall moments in your life when someone sat with you and built you up. Maybe they asked questions about your goals, your dreams and your hopes. They wanted to get to know more about you, sure. But in those moments, they were also working to help you learn more about yourself. Sometimes challenging you, sometimes agreeing with you, sometimes encouraging you to grow into the person you were meant to be. Their words were important – maybe they weren’t a motivational speech, maybe they weren’t getting you fired up about anything --- just simply talking through life.
As we move into Week 6 – Opening Doors, consider how you might be able to sit with others and encourage them with your words. How might you be able to show up, visit, and be with them as they are learning more and more about how to love? Most importantly about how to love themselves.
You never know what someone might take away from a conversation with you. Be yourself but consider taking a moment each time you engage to ask God to provide you with the words that you need to say. Ask Him, to open the person’s heart to hear His words as you talk to one another. In addition, ask him to open your heart to see and hear what God needs you to take away from the conversation.
Remember that we all learn and grow together. Our actions are certainly important, yes. However, learning to become more thoughtful about pulling our tone and choice of words from a place of love can sometimes move mountains that we once thought were unmovable.
